African Bowl
This is a vintage African ceramic bowl, traditionally hand-built and pit-fired, likely originating from the Nupe or Yoruba people of Nigeria. Crafted from clay and adorned with intricate incised patterns—such as herringbone and linear motifs—it reflects the artistic vocabulary of central and western Nigerian pottery. The upper half features geometric carvings and lugs for suspension or handling, while the lower portion remains unadorned, with a rich, burnished patina from decades of use and exposure.
It would have been used for storing grains, water, or ceremonial purposes—merging utility with cultural symbolism. Each bowl is one-of-a-kind and steeped in regional identity and artisanal tradition.
