CN Charred Oak Multi-Foot Tray

This remarkable charred wood tray by Christian Nyberg is both grounded and otherworldly—a substantial, slab-like surface elevated by a striking array of 20 short, rounded legs. Each leg is hand-shaped and slightly irregular, creating a forest-like base that supports the thick, organic top. The top itself retains the natural contour and grain of the original wood, charred to a deep black that emphasizes its texture and rings. The surface is subtly uneven and tactile, honoring the raw material while showcasing Nyberg’s skillful refinement.

The rounded, asymmetrical form flows outward into soft, subtle wings on either side.  The richly textured grain of the wood is emphasized by the deep char finish, drawing the eye into its swirling pattern and central knot, which adds a raw, untouched element to the otherwise carefully carved surface. A small brass inlay dot near the edge introduces a refined moment of contrast and acts almost like a quiet signature.
