Crater Tray

A charred meditation on form and negative space, Crater Tray is hand-carved by Christian Nyberg and shaped through repeated burning and scraping. Hardwood embers are placed directly on the surface to create each depression, then scraped back and re-burned. The final shape is determined not by exacting control, but by surrendering to flame, gravity, and grain. What remains is a topography of darkened hollows—each one a remnant of heat and time. A single brass inlay offers quiet contrast, like a celestial marker in a blackened sky. Use it as a sculptural centerpiece, catchall, or simply let it sit and invite stillness.
