CN Charred Wood Spine Wall Sculpture

This wall-mounted sculpture by Christian Nyberg evokes both natural anatomy and mythic relic. Formed from charred wood, the piece resembles a skeletal spine or botanical structure—somewhere between a fossil and a fern. The central spine, elongated and tapering, is flanked by a rhythmic array of hand-attached branches that radiate outward like ribs or leaflets, creating a sense of breath and motion. The blackened surface holds tension between delicacy and strength, and a tiny brass dot at the base anchors the work in his distinctive language.

At once primal and modern, this piece reads like a suspended moment in the life cycle of something once living—now preserved in carbon and flame. It asks the viewer to consider transformation, resilience, and the lingering imprint of the natural world.
