This charred wood side table by Christian Nyberg is a sculptural piece that blends elemental intensity with refined craftsmanship. Carved from solid wood and deeply textured, the table showcases Nyberg’s signature process: hardwood embers are placed on the wood, burning their way into the surface to form an organic depression. The wood is scraped, then burned again—layer upon layer—until the shape is dictated by heat and flame.

The central cavity is punctuated by a rich, hand-textured surface that invites touch, with a void that pierces through the form, creating negative space and visual intrigue. Subtle patterns from the burning process and chisel marks remain visible, giving the piece a tactile rhythm. Finished in a deep, matte black, the table carries a quiet intensity—anchored yet raw, contemporary yet primitive.
