This Charred Wood Tray by Christian Nyberg is a commanding object that balances rawness with precision. Shaped from solid wood and finished through Nyberg’s signature burning process, the tray features bold, star-like edges that radiate outward in sharp, geometric rhythm. Each jagged point is meticulously carved, then exposed to flame—where hardwood embers are placed on the surface, allowed to burn into the grain, scraped back, and burned again. The result is a deeply blackened surface, matte and tactile, with subtle tonal variation that reveals the grain’s ghost beneath. The overall effect is celestial and grounded—like a solar form forged in fire.
